Susan Brondyk Named to Board Developing Mentoring Program for Educators

Dr. Susan Brondyk, who is the Irwin B. and Margie E. Floyd Associate Professor of Education and department chair at 鶹ý, has been named to the Advisory Board of Project IMPACT, which is slated to create curricular, professional development and standards to be used by mentors to support new administrators, counselors and teachers in Michigan’s schools.

The 鶹ý Orchestra will present “The Symphonic Story of Home,” a hymn-sing program with the members of the audience encouraged to participate as vocalists, on Friday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.

The new book “Invoking the Fathers: Dangerous Metaphors and Founding Myths in Congressional Politics” by Dr. Sarah Kornfield of the 鶹ý communication faculty, published this month by Johns Hopkins University Press, examines the impact of the phrase “Founding Fathers” as code for a particular political outlook.

Film “Freedom Hair” and Discussion to Highlight Grassroots Change

The film “Freedom Hair,” based on the true story of Melony Armstrong, a working mother whose decision to create her own business transformed a profession, will be shown at 鶹ý on Monday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.

The Holland Area Arts Council will feature the collaborative student-faculty exhibition “Standing Upright and Hanging by a Thread” by 鶹ý senior studio art major Sophia Funston and Lisa Walcott, who is an associate professor of art at the college, from Friday, Oct. 11, through Friday, Nov. 1.

鶹ý has received the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award for the third year in a row from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.

Hope Theatre to Present Original Production “The Hijabis”

The 鶹ý Department of Theatre will present Rohina Malik’s “The Hijabis” on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 18-19, and Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 24-26, at 7:30 p.m., along with a free 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, Oct. 20. All performances will be in the DeWitt Center main theatre.
